Bio

Margreet Dietz is the author of four non-fiction books, A Hundred Reasons to Run 100km, Running Shoes Are a Girl’s Best Friend, Powered From Within: Stories About Running & Triathlon and A Work in Progress: Exercises in Writing. 

Her poem "Believe" was published in an anthology of verse, Island Mists, while an excerpt of her memoir-in-progress was published in emerge 14: The Writer's Studio Anthology.

Her latest book is From my Mother, a novel.

Her books are in public library collections in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the US.

Margreet is a 2014 graduate of The Writer's Studio's creative writing program at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, studying under Charles Demers. In June 2015, she completed The Writer's Studio's Graduate Workshop (six months) mentored by Wayde Compton.

Margreet has worked with other authors on publishing their books: Doreen Ramus' My Life's Journey (June 2016), Graham E. Fuller's Breaking Faith: A novel of espionage and an American's crisis of conscience in Pakistan (Feb 2015), Turkey and the Arab Spring: Leadership in the Middle East (May 2014) and Three Truths and a Lie (September 2012), Timothy Moore's Sub Nine: History's Fastest Ironwomen (April 2011) and Teresa Rider's Reconnect With Food: Eat Your Way to Triathlon Success (May 2011).

Born in the Netherlands in 1970, Margreet has been a professional (anglophone) journalist since 1996. She reported for Bloomberg News from Brussels, Toronto and Sydney, and worked as a copy-editor at The Australian Financial Review in Sydney.

The stories she wrote for Bloomberg News have been published in newspapers worldwide, including in the International Herald Tribune, Globe and Mail, The Vancouver Sun, National Post, The Australian Financial Review, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, New Zealand Herald, Seattle Post-Intelligencer and De Tijd.

Margreet's articles on running and triathlon have appeared in endurance sports magazines in Australia and Canada since 2006.

In 2005 she received a Diploma with Distinction in Book Editing & Publishing from Macleay College in Sydney.

Margreet also holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a master’s degree in International and Comparative Law. She's an NCCP Trained Community Coach (Triathlon) and successfully completed the Canadian Fitness Education Services' Fitness Knowledge Course.

The five-time Ironman finisher, with a personal best of 11:12, has been focused on running since 2005. Still aiming to improve her marathon PB of 3:00:29, she has put her ultrarunning on hold for now. She finished her first 50-mile trail race in August 2010 and her first 100km road race in November 2010, winning the 40-49 division in both.

She ran her second 50-miler in November 2011, four weeks after a 3:06 marathon and six weeks after a 3:09 marathon. Her 7:57 finish was the fastest in the 40-49 division.

Margreet is the 2017 & 2011 Goodlife Fitness Victoria Marathon women's masters champion, a a title she also earned at the BMO Vancouver Marathon in 2011 and 2012.

In 2016, she won the inaugural Americas Masters Games half marathon and 10K.

She is the 2011 Bellingham Bay Marathon and the 2009 North Olympic Discovery Marathon overall women's champion.

In 2013, she finished third overall female at the Amica Seattle Marathon. She won the women's masters division at the 2014, 2016 & 2018 BMO Sunshine Coast April Fools half marathon, and the 2015, 2016 & 2017 Bellingham Bay half marathon.
